Lugnuts, Blue Jays extend PDC through 2016

September 23, 2014

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts and Toronto Blue Jays announced a two-year extension of their player development contract today, securing the Blue Jays' Single-A affiliation in Michigan's state capital through the 2016 season.

"This is terrific news for the city of Lansing," said Lansing Lugnuts co-owner Tom Dickson. "The Toronto Blue Jays consistently provide high-character, high-ceiling baseball players. After watching the rapid ascent of Daniel Norris, Dalton Pompey and Kendall Graveman from the Lugnuts to the Blue Jays in just one year, we are excited to see who follows in their footsteps."

"We love our affiliation with the Lugnuts," said Blue Jays Director of Minor League Operations Charlie Wilson. "From the location to the front office staff to the stadium atmosphere, the Lansing Lugnuts are an ideal partner. We're already looking forward to our first glimpse of Cooley Law School Stadium's renovations on Opening Day 2015."

The Lugnuts celebrate 20 years in Lansing in 2015, with Midwest League titles in 1997 and 2003. The upcoming renovation will provide Cooley Law School Stadium with a $1 million HD video board, a 360° walk-around concourse, re-imagined and enhanced picnic venues, a new kids playground area, team clubhouse upgrades, refurbished seating, a new playing surface, renovated annual suites, installation of energy-efficient lighting and windows, and a new special event facility to allow for all-season use of the ballpark.

Affiliated with Toronto since 2005, the Lugnuts have featured 49 Midwest League All-Stars, more than 700 victories, five playoff berths (including a 2011 trip to the MWL Championship Series) and 27 Major Leaguers.
